Are you wondering what the heck #TBT or #MCM means? Don’t   worry, your Instagram Obsessed Social Media Specialist is here!

(Try saying that 5 times fast!)

Keep reading for a free library packed full of “Day Of The Week” hashtags that you can easily use on Instagram and Twitter to boost your audience engagement.

First let’s take a look at what a hashtag actually is, what it does and how it can help your social media game.

hash·tag
noun: hashtag; plural noun: hashtags
Definition (from Wikipedia) A hashtag is a type of label or metadata tag used on social network and microblogging services which makes it easier for users to find messages with a specific theme or content. Users create and use hashtags by placing the hash character (or number sign) # in front of a word or unspaced phrase, either in the main text of a message or at the end. Searching for that hashtag will then present each message that has been tagged with it.

So essentially, by tagging your tweets/posts with related hashtags, it will help your content appear in the search results of people looking through tweets/posts on that particular topic.

Using relevant and trending hashtags on a regular basis is a great way to join in on conversations and expose yourself to new audiences on social media.

Fun Fact: Hashtags first arrived on the Twitter scene in 2007. For more on the history of the hashtag click here.

Using these hashtags will definitely help expose your small or growing business to new audiences on social media, but there are some guidelines to keep in mind. Here are some helpful tips for using these hashtags.

  • DON’T use a hashtag if it doesn’t align with your brand or niche.
  • DO stay relevant to your industry.

  • DON’T feel that you have to use ALL of these hashtags ALL of the time. 3-4 a week is enough.
  • DO try to schedule your social media posts in advance to stay consistent.

  • DON’T use more than 2-3 hashtags in your caption or tweet or it just looks messy.
  • DO put the rest of your relevant hashtag in the comments below (You can use a max of 30 hashtags per post on Instagram).

  • DON’T type out each hashtag every time you post (ain’t nobody got time for that)!
  • DO keep them saved in your phone for an easy copy & paste.

I hope this post has helped you understand hashtags a little bit better and given you some new ideas for fun and relevant hashtags that you can use in your Instagram and Twitter feed.
